What is an elevated service charge?

  • Updated

An “elevated service charge” is a specific rate for customers located in higher-elevation areas or areas that require extra pumping to achieve adequate water pressure. This rate covers the operational costs required to boost water to a higher “pressure plane.”

These improvements provide more consistent water pressure and better fire hydrant performance for customers.

The current elevated service charge for Louisville Water, as stated in the 2026 Tariff, Rate Schedule, and Customer Fees and Charges, is $0.56 per thousand gallons.

In January 2026, 800 customers in the Fairdale area were upgraded to a different pressure zone. As a result, these customers will see a slightly higher service charge moving forward. This change is consistent with all other Louisville Water customers and will begin in February 2026.
